Trash to Treasures...UGLY to FAB File Cabinet
When I started working from home, it became clear to me very fast that I needed a file cabinet. After going to every where from Office Max, Target and WalMart I realized that file cabinets are not cheap! To save money I started looking at my local thrift store and won't ya know it, I found several! But they were all very ugly, beat up and look like they came out of the 60' or 70's. That didn't stop me! I picked up this file cabinet for only $5!!
As you can see it was pretty beat up, but I decided to add my own little twist to it! I had been seeing a lot of different uses for scrapbooking paper and WHAM I had my idea. First thing I did was picked a base color I wanted to work with. Since the color was kind of dark I went with black so that I could cover it up in one coat.
I removed the door handles and as you can see I only painted the areas that were not going to be covered with the scrapbooking paper. Then I picked out some black and white paper with some great shapes and designs, as well as a few pops of color. After playing around with some different ways of laying out the paper and when I found one I liked I got busy with some decoupage! I didn't take any pictures during this, sorry!
When I finished with the decoupage, I used a spray clear coat to cover the whole cabinet. I also painted the cabinet door handles, one black and one white. Attached them and......here's the finished product. I've never done anything like this so it was a learning process for me, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!
